Mystical Film Guide

Genres

To avoid having almost all animated films being in the fantasy category, they are allocated more in regard to secondary qualities.

Colours

Links to film titles are colour coded with a system based on the three attributional principles of yogic philosophy, called the "gunas" in Sanskrit; with a 0-5 rating for each of the three "gunas" (attributional principles) that respectively determine the rgb colour value. These guna ratings do not indicate how good the film is, but rather indicate the character and tone of the film.

Tama Guna (Static principle: dullness/inertia) - darkness, violence, adult issues
Raja Guna (Mutative principle: energy/power) - intensity, speed, dynamism
Sattva Guna (Sentient principle: awareness/purity) - conscience, subtlety, wisdom

Those of a highly sensitive or refined sensibility would probably prefer to avoid the brighter oranges, yellows, and greens, i.e., titles with high ratings for tama or raja. guna

[ Note that these colours for the gunas are not the gunas' actual colours of subjective psychic connation, which are; tama - black, raja - red, and sattva - white. ]

Grades

Entries are graded A to C. All the entries here are deemed "good" at the least, and should generally be suitable for a spiritually orientated audience; titles with high tama and/or raja ratings notwithstanding.

Grade C is also indicates merit, only to a comparatively lesser degree, or that it is of less universal appeal. The grades attempt to provide a notion of relative magnificence.

The choice of titles and grades is biased towards titles that have mystical, spiritual, or ideological bearing (notwithstanding my personal bias towards scifi and sentimentality). As such the scores differ somewhat from conventional ratings like IMDB.

A : Super-ace! Magnificent. Bravo!

B : Brilliant, outstanding, superb.

C : Great, excellent. Perhaps not for everyone.

* : Apex

+ : Special merit

- : Conspicuous defect
